Visiting hours have been restricted at Basingstoke Hospital due to an outbreak of norovirus.

The winter vomiting bug is highly contagious. Anyone with symptoms - including sickness and diarrhoea - is asked to stay at home and drink plenty of fluids.

Visiting hours have been restricted to 6pm until 8pm. Just last week - hospitals across England were forced to close more than one thousand beds due to the bug.

Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital says visiting will only be permitted outside of these hours in the most exceptional circumstances and must be cleared with the matron responsible for the ward in advance in each case.

People are being urged not to visit tonight, with under 12's not visiting at all during the outbreak. The situation will be kept under constant review and this page will be updated daily.
