A consultation is underway after a planning application was submitted for the partial demolition of the Claremont Hotel.
The Grade two listed building on Eastbourne seafront was badly damaged by a large fire in November.
The owners have submitted plans which are being considered by Eastbourne Borough Council which says all comments must be received by next Friday.
In a statement the council says depending on the outcome of the consultation, it's hoped that arrangements for the partial demolition can begin within weeks.
The council says it will continue to do everything in its power to return this section of the seafront to normal as quickly as possible, most importantly the re-opening of Grand Parade.
Regular meetings are taking place between the council and businesses based close to the hotel and other neighbours.
