Two women have died and four people were injured in a two-car crash near Chichester on Thursday evening.
Emergency services were called to the A27 near the Fishbourne roundabout just after 10pm.
A Ford Focus and a Renault Zoe left the road and crashed into trees on the carriageway.
An 80-year-old woman and a 75-year-old woman from Chichester, who were passengers in the Zoe, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The other passengers travelling in the Renault Zoe suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital in Portsmouth for treatment.
Part of the eastbound carriageway was closed until around 8am on Friday.
Sussex Police are asking anyone who saw the collision or has dash cam footage to email - firstname.lastname@example.org - and quote Operation Larkhill.
