The leader of the Isle of Wight Council has offered his condolences to the two Island residents who've died at St Mary's Hospital after testing positive for coronavirus.

Councillor Dave Stewart offered his 'sincere sympathies' to their friends and families. He added:

“I would implore everyone on the Isle of Wight to follow government instructions to stay at home, protect the NHS and ultimately save lives.

Alistair Flowerdew, Medical Director at Isle of Wight NHS Trust, said two patients, both men in their 70's and 80's, had underlying health conditions.

Thirteen patients have died from coronavirus at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth in the last few days.

The nine men and four women, aged between 51 and 93, all had underlying health conditions.
