Thursday night marked a second showing of public gratitude to thank all NHS staff for their work to tackle the coronavirus.
The #Clapforcarers event at 8pm was a chance for people to make an appointment to put their hands together at the same time wherever they were to show their appreciation, while social distancing.
There was a series of events nationwide to mark the tribute, including a pause in broadcasting on ITV.
In the ITV Meridian region we filmed and were sent videos of people on their doorsteps clapping, making noise with drums and horns, even bagpipes. The locations were as wide apart as Hove, Whiteley, Winchester and Bournemouth. A group of dockers in Southampton also gathered, widely apart in formation to thank NHS staff and other people carrying out essential work at this time.
People are also being reminded that they can donate money to the official NHS Charities Together Covid-19 appeal.
- Fund well-being packs/gifts for staff and volunteers on wards/departments (this could include food deliveries, high energy/protein bars/drinks, snacks, refreshments, wash kits, overnight stay kits.)
- Fund cost of travel, parking, accommodation for NHS staff, volunteers and carers and their incurred expenses.
- Other items as requested by NHS Charities that enhance the well-being of NHS staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients.
- Provide support to carers in the voluntary and social health care network who are helping get people out of hospital and on the road to recover.
