Daughter of Berkshire nurse who died with Covid-19 pays tribute to 'selfless' and 'caring' mother

  • Video report by ITV News Meridian's Andrew Pate

The family of a nurse who died after testing positive for coronavirus say she put her life 'selflessly on the line for others'.

Julie Edward trained to be a nurse in her fifties and worked at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

Her daughter Ashley says it was the perfect profession for someone so caring and friendly and that her mother was 'always the star of the party'.

Ashley lives in Portugal and hasn't been able to visit her Mum due to safety restrictions during the pandemic.

I have days where I'm ok with her passing. I'm accepting of it. I have other days when I get so angry and I think 'Mum why would you leave us? What's going to happen to your grandkids? You promised you were going to come to Portugal to see them, now I have to tell them they'll never see you again'".

Julie is one of dozens of frontline NHS workers across the South who have died, as a result of the pandemic.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help pay for a memorial service for Julie in Zambia.

Her daughter says she will hold on to the memories of her Mum, the nurse who went to great lengths to help her patients.

Ashley says: "She promised the patient, if you eat your food, I will dance for you. This patient ate the food and my Mum danced for the patient and since then she had this great rapport with the patient."
