PC Andrew Harper trial to resume in June

Two teenagers accused of killing Pc Andrew Harper can be named for the first time.

Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers, both aged 18, were allegedly passengers in a car involved in the death of the Thames Valley Police officer.

Pc Harper, 28, died after becoming entangled in a tow rope as he attempted to apprehend quad bike thieves in Berkshire, in August last year.

The trial of Cole, Bowers, and the driver Henry Long, 19, was abandoned in March after some jurors went into self isolation because of the coronavirus pandemic.

At a hearing at the Old Bailey today, Mr Justice Edis said it was a priority case as he set a new trial to start in the week of June 15.

Long, of Mortimer, Reading, has admitted manslaughter and conspiracy to steal a quad bike but denied murder.

Cole, from Aldermaston, and Bowers, from Mortimer, have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal but both deny murder and manslaughter.
