Video report by ITV Meridian reporter Abigail Bracken

ITV News has filmed more migrants heading from Calais to Dover in overloaded kayaks. Dozens of people were seen trying to cross the channel border, including at least three children. HM Coastguards had to use a helicopter, a plane and three of their vessels to rescue them.

HM Coastguard has today coordinated search and rescue responses to a significant number of incidents off Kent, working with Border Force and other partners. We are committed to safeguarding life around the seas and coastal areas of this country.

At least 2,800 migrants have crossed to the UK so far this year. Home Secretary, Priti Patel, told MPs that the UK Government is currently locked in a row with France over differing "interpretations" of maritime law while trying to tackle the crisis.
