A "fondly remembered" motorcyclist who died in a crash in Marchwood has been named.

Craig Smart, who was 38 and from Gosport, was involved in a collision involving another motorcycle and a van on the A326 on 6 October.

His family said he was "a strong, devoted and selfless family man who always put the needs of others above his own."

In a tribute released by police, they said: “Craig embodied a philosophy of living life to the fullest and was happiest when he was riding about on his motorbike, sailing up and down the Solent on his boat Pugwash, fishing and kayaking at Stokes Bay and Lee-on-the-Solent and above all, spending time with his family and friends.

He was "a truly great man" who will be "sorely missed", they added.

Smart was riding a white Yamaha motorcycle at the time of the collision, which also involved a black Honda motorcycle and a blue Mercedes Sprinter van.

He and the rider of the other motorbike, 49-year-old Simon Ashworth from Warsash, both died from their injuries, police said.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking anyone who might have seen the three vehicles driving in the area at the time to come forward.
