Toronto Police posted on their official Twitter page: "#Radiohead concert at #Downsview Park has been cancelled due to stage collapse. Asking people to stay away from immediate area."
In another message, police said: "We are not confirming the number or nature of injures at this time at #Downsview Park. We will provide that later when all facts are in."
Within minutes of news spreading, the hashtag #radiohead was the top trending topic on the social network.
In one picture posted on Twitter by Jason Ip, a huge scaffolding that had fully collapsed in the middle could be seen. Along with the picture Mr Ip tweeted: "Radiohead stage collapse. People were underneath and we're getting sent away from the site.
Oxfordshire band Radiohead has cancelled a concert in Canada after one person died and another was seriously injured when the stage collapsed during setting up. Paramedics said two other people were also injured.
The band had been due to play to a sold-out crowd at Downsview Park in Toronto. A statement on the band's website said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances the Radiohead show at Downsview Park tonight has been cancelled.
"Fans are advised not to make their way to the venue. Refunds will be made at point of purchase. Further information is to follow."
