The inquest into the death of a boy killed when he fell overboard off the Isle of Wight has been opened and adjourned.

Charlie Hutton, 14, from Surrey, was pronounced dead at Southampton General Hospital after falling from the rigid hull inflatable near The Needles on Friday.

The boat was travelling from Mudeford in Dorset to the Isle of Wight when Charlie and his friend fell into the water, getting tangled with the propeller.

The boat was being driven by Charlie’s father, Simon Hutton, 52.

The friend, also 14, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital to receive treatment for an injury, which was serious but not life threatening.
