Pedestrian hit on motorway in critical condition

Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a collision with vehicles on the M3 at Otterbourne.

Officers were called to junction 12 of the northbound motorway at around 9.20pm last night.

A 73-year-old man from Winchester was walking along the carriageway when he was hit by a number of vehicles - at least two, police say.

He suffered serious life threatening injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this collision. It is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

I’m appealing for information and would particularly like to hear from the drivers of two vehicles believed to be involved in the incident. One is a dark coloured lorry and the other is a Renault vehicle.

– Sergeant Andy Tester

The northbound carriageway was closed for around three hours for police to investigate and recover the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Tester at Totton police station on 101 quoting Operation Walburton.
