A motorcyclist has died this morning following a collision at junction five of the M27.

Police release details of M27 fatal crash

A HGV and motorbike crash on the M27 westbound yesterday morning (Wednesday, August 14), led to a the death of a man in his 40s. Police say he was from the Havant are and will not name him yet.

A 50-year-old man from Southampton who was arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with the collision has been released on bail pending further inquiries.


Truck driver arrested after M27 death

Roads Policing Unit can confirm that a driver of a waste truck has been contacted following the death of a motorcyclist on the M27 earlier today.

The man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop.

The Roads Policing Unit said: "Closing a motorway is not something we take lightly. We are fully aware of the impact to the public and local businesses and we try to update the community regularly as to when it will be re-opened."

It is important to stress that we keeping an open mind about the collision until we have collated all the evidence and ruled out the possibility of any other vehicle being involved. That’s why it’s absolutely vital that anyone who witnessed the collision this morning or has any information that can help to get in touch. We are working very hard to re-open the motorway and hope to have all lanes running by half past one. M27 closed until 1pm

Officers at the scene of the M27 collision say the westbound carriageway between junctions seven and five is likely to remain closed until 1pm.

Hampshire police want to thank the public for their help with the appeal and patience while the road remains closed.

Hunt for lorry involved in M27 crash

Hampshire police can confirm that the vehicle that fatally hit the motorcyclist on the M27 this morning was a skip lorry vehicle.

The initial information from witnesses said it was a lorry that hit the biker.

However information now suggests the vehicle was a high-sided skip lorry but the company and colour has not been confirmed.

The vehicle continued driving after the crash and so investigations are underway to find the driver.

The M27 westbound between junctions seven and five is likely to remain closed until at least 1pm while we continue to investigate and recover the scene.

Parts of the M27 are empty because of the fatal crash earlier this morning.

A lorry was in collision with a motorcyclist and the biker in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Junctions five to seven westbound on the M27 are closed and is likely to remain shut for the next few hours.
