Japan wants to learn from Southampton how to imitate its successful business investment.

With declining industries in Hokkaido like coal, iron, steel and papermaking, the city has been looking around the world to find the best ways of rebuilding its future.

25 delegates from Japan flew to meet with the Council on Friday 13th September to learn more about Southampton.

Councillor Simon Letts, Leader of the Council, said:

“Southampton City Council is delighted to meet with the Japanese delegation from Hokkaido. We have worked hard to develop a plan that will see the city centre undergo a major transformation with the creation of 5000 new homes, 24,000 new jobs and £3 billion worth of investment."
