Staff 'shocked' at theft of poppy collection box

Staff at Bracknell library have said they were "shocked and dismayed" by the theft of a poppy collection box.

The container, containing donations to the annual poppy appeal, was taken from the reception counter.

A 32-year old Bracknell man has been arrested and eventually jailed for a month, for the crime.

Prison sentence for stealing poppy collection box

A man has been sent to prison for stealing a poppy collection from a library in Bracknell.

Jonathan Effiong-Gordon, aged 32, Halewood, Bracknell, was imprisoned for four weeks after pleading guilty to theft at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (12/11).

At about 3pm on 6 November, Effiong-Gordon used scissors to cut a cable tie that connected the collection box to reception at the library in Town Square

Effiong-Gordon then removed the contents of the collection before discarding it.

Effiong-Gordon was arrested and charged on Remembrance Day.
