Major incident declared on M20 over bank holiday weekend

The M20 in Kent was closed in both directions for almost 24 hours between Junctions 3 and 4 at West Malling near Maidstone due to a serious incident. A lorry carrying a digger struck a footbridge over the motorway in the Londonbound direction.

Huge delays for motorists after M20 bridge collapse

There's gridlock on the roads in Kent this evening after a lorry demolished a footbridge over the M20 motorway near Maidstone. Both carriageways have been closed. Amazingly only one person is reported injured. Our reporter Charlotte Wilkins reports.


Bridge collapses onto the M20 in Kent

The M20 in Kent is closed in both directions between Junctions 3 and 4 near Maidstone due to a serious incident.

All emergency services are en-route or in attendance and the scene is being managed by Kent Police.

Road users are being strongly urged to plan ahead and use alternative routes.

Highways England says the road is expected to be closed for an extended duration.

The Emergency services are currently at the scene dealing with the collapsed bridge. The M20 is closed in both directions.
