An inquest has heard that a teenager - and the man who went to his rescue - both died after getting into difficulty at Camber Sands on July 24.
Gustavo Silva Da Cruz, 19, disappeared in a fast rising tide after shouting to a friend 'I can't breathe'. His body was found later that day.
Mohit Dupar, 38, a strong swimmer, went to his rescue but he too went under. He died four days later in hospital.
Mr Dupar's son Ankush,17, also ended up underwater and was in a coma for three weeks.
In his statement to the inquest he called for the beach to be closed to swimmers.
The inquests - being heard in tandem at Hastings - will be followed by pre-inquest reviews into the deaths of five Sri Lankan friends who drowned at Camber in August.
