Tributes to fundraiser who died during charity pram race

A man who was badly injured in a charity pram event in Kent, died early this morning.

Francis O'Sullivan was being pushed along in the race, when the pram overturned on a hill, and he hit his head.

It happened on the High Street in Sutton Valence near Maidstone on New Year's Day. The village has been staging the pram race for 38 years, without serious incident.

The pub that organised the race said they were shocked by the tragedy - but that it was too soon to decide whether future races would go ahead or be abandoned.

A man has died after suffering a serious head injury when he fell from a pram during a charity fundraising race.

The man, 52, was taken to a London hospital after the accident in High Street, Sutton Valence, near Maidstone, Kent, at 12.33pm on New Year's Day.

He died in the early hours of Tuesday. A Kent Police spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Large crowds had gathered to watch the annual charity event.

Kent Police were called to High Street, Sutton Valence at 12.33pm on January 1 after a man fell from a pram during an organised event. The 52-year-old suffered a serious head injury and was airlifted to a London hospital. He later died at hospital at around 1am on January 3. Next of kin are aware.

The accident happened during the annual pram race. It takes place in the historic village of Sutton Valence in Kent on New Year's Day. Each team has to complete two laps of the loop road in the village, with a hair raising ride down a steep hill. During the race they also have to down pints of ale at each of the 3 pubs. The event is held every year to raise money for charity.
