A murder investigation has been launched after a businessman was shot during a botched burglary at his £1 million home. Guy Hedger, 61, was gunned down at his house in the East Dorset village of St Ives.

Mr Hedger died of gunshot wounds following a raid at his home near Ringwood three weeks ago, Three men have been charged with his murder and are due to appear at Winchester Crown Court in July.

A sixth man arrested in connection with the murder of Guy Hedger in Dorset has been released under investigation.

A 39 year old man from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary yesterday.

Guy was shot dead by intruders in the early hours on Sunday 30th April at his home in Castlewood in Ringwood.

Searches at an address in the West Howe area are continuing.

Kevin Downton, who is 40 and from Winterborne Stickland near Blandford, 41-year-old Jason Baccus and 44-year-old Scott Keeping, both of Verney Close in Bournemouth, are all charged with murder.

All three men will appear at Winchester Crown Court in July 2017.

A 40-year-old Bournemouth woman and a 45-year-old man from Poole, previously arrested in relation to the incident, have also been released under investigation.

Detectives have made a further arrest this morning in the Guy Hedger murder investigation.

A 39 year old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.

An address in the West Howe area is currently being searched by officers in connection with the investigation.

Guy was shot dead by intruders in the early hours on Sunday 30th April at his home in Castlewood in Ringwood.

It is believed jewellery, including designer watches, were stolen from the address.

Two men have been charged with the murder of Guy Hedger in East Dorset.

He was shot dead by intruders at his home in Castlewood in Ringwood, in the early hours of Sunday 30th April.

41 year old Jason Baccus and 44 year old Scott Keeping, both of Verney Close in Bournemouth, were this afternoon charged with murder and aggravated burglary.

It is believed jewellery, including designer watches, were stolen from the address.

A second occupant in the house at the time – who was the victim’s partner – is being supported by specially-trained officers.

The family of murder victim Guy Hedger paid tribute to "a caring and compassionate man" who lived life to the full.

The post-mortem examination found he died as a consequence of gunshot wounds.

Both men are due to appear at Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Saturday 6 May 2017.

Fourth murder arrest as man hands himself to police

A fourth person has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Dorset businessman.

Police say a man attended Bournemouth police station on Wednesday 3 May.

The 40 year-old, from the Blandford area, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and aggravated burglary.

In total, four arrests have been made.

"Our enquiries still continue and our appeal still stands for anyone with information that could aid us to come forward. This is the case for anything relating to suspicious activity after 3am on Sunday 30 April 2017 in the Verney Close area of West Howe and in Winterborne Stickland as well as information about anyone acting unusually in Castlewood in the days or hours leading up to Guy Hedger being killed."

Detectives have arrested two men and one woman in connection with the murder of an East Dorset businessman.

Guy Hedger was shot dead by intruders at his home in Castlewood in Ringwood, in the early hours of Sunday 30th April .

The arrests were made yesterday [Tuesday 2nd May] in the Bournemouth area.

A 41-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and aggravated burglary. A 44-year-old Bournemouth man and a 40-year-old Bournemouth woman have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.

All three people are currently being questioned by detectives.

Officers are continuing to search properties in Winterborne Stickland near Blandford and in Verney Close in West Howe in Bournemouth.

Dorset Police is appealling for anyone with information to contact them on 101 or by emailing 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk, quoting incident number 30:53.

The family of murder victim Guy Hedger have paid tribute to "a caring and compassionate man" who lived life to the full.

Guy was killed in the early hours of the morning on Sunday 30 April 2017 after at least two intruders entered his home in Castlewood in Ringwood.

Police received a call at 3.03am reporting that Guy had been shot with a shotgun. Despite the best efforts of medical staff he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arriving at hospital.

It is believed jewellery, including designer watches, was stolen from the address.

A second occupant in the house at the time – who was the victim’s partner – has been deeply affected by the incident and is being supported by specially-trained officers.

A murder investigation is now underway led by Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team.

Detectives are working tirelessly to arrest those responsible for Guy’s murder and establish why his address was targeted.

It is believed there may have been an element of pre-planning involved and officers would urgently like to hear from anyone who may have seen people or vehicles acting suspiciously in the area directly before or during the days or hours leading up to the incident.

Currently it is not thought that the offenders were known to the victim however, detectives continue to investigate all lines of enquiry.

Guy was a caring and compassionate partner, son, brother and uncle who lived life to its full and enriched the lives of all those who knew him.

We are devastated that Guy's life has been cut short in this way. Guy will be sorely missed by family, friends and colleagues, but he will live in our hearts forever.

We ask for time to grieve in private.
