British Airways passengers are facing major delays, long queues and possible missed flights due to a global problem with the airline's IT system.

Some passengers at Heathrow's Terminal 5 say they have been stuck in queues for over an hour and a half, while others at Gatwick have been told that no BA flights are currently taking off due to the problem.

BA's website has been unavailable and some travellers claim they can't check-in on the mobile app, causing them to miss flights.

This is traditionally one of the busiest weekends of the year for airports as tourists take advantage of the bank holiday weekend.

It comes just a day after a technical problem at Gatwick Airport meant that thousands of passengers travelled without their luggage.
