The A3 southbound has now also been reopened after a fatal collision between a pedestrian and a van in the early hours of this morning. The A3 was initially shut in both directions at Thursley for investigations to take place. Diversions have been lifted.

There is queueing traffic on the A3 Milford Bypass Southbound from A283 / B3001 Elstead Road (Milford) to Old Portsmouth Road (Thursley). There is also congestion on the A3 to the Hurtmore Turn Off. All lanes have been re-opened.

The A3 Hindhead Tunnel and Milford Bypass Northbound have been re-opened after earlier accident investigation work on the stretch from the A333 Portsmouth Road / Hazel Grove (Hindhead) to the A283 / B3001 Elstead Road (Milford).

The accident happened at about 4am on the Thursley side of the Southern Milford junction. The A3 southbound away from Guildford heading towards Portsmouth remains closed.

A man in his twenties has died after a collision with a van along the A3 in Surrey. Police officers were called to the southbound A3 junction near Thursley just after 4am today. They were assisted by paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service and Surrey Fire & Rescue Service.

The man in his twenties, a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed about what happened. Surrey Police say the van driver is helping with their enquiries.

There are diversions are in place in both directions between the nearby Hindhead Tunnel and Milford, while investigations continue.

A new report says congestion on the M25 is so bad the region's economy is at risk and urgent action must be taken.

The report by Highways England found the stretch of motorway between the A3 in Surrey and the M40 in Buckinghamshire had the worst traffic in Europe with more than 220 thousands vehicles using it every single day.

In a highly controversial move it says key roads in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey and Hampshire should be improved to cope with the growing problem.

There have been two accidents on the A3. One lane is blocked and there is very slow traffic due on A3 Northbound between A31 Farnham Road (Hogs Back) and Egerton Road (Cathedral Turn).

There is congestion to the A283 / B3001 Elstead Road. Initially there was just one minor accident that had blocked a lane prior to the Cathedral Turn, but a little further behind it, two other couple of vehicles also collided.

One lane is blocked and there is queueing traffic because of an overturned car on the A3 Northbound at Guildford before Egerton Road (Cathedral Turn), congestion to B3000 ( Puttenham / Compton). Lane two (of two lanes) is blocked.

Hampshire Police have confirmed the name of a man who was killed in a collision on the A3 near Liphook on New Year's Day.

James Robert Stephenson, 32, from Liphook was on a bicycle when the accident involving multiple vehicles occurred. It happened shortly after 7.30am. A police investigation is underway into the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
