Nine puppies who were left in a cardboard box in a Southampton park have all been named after characters from Downton Abbey.

A lady walking her dog in the park in Sholing discovered the six-week old lurchers and took them to the Blue Cross in Southampton.

Laura Boyle, Blue Cross Rehoming Supervisor said, "The lady saw a tall cardboard box and heard crying coming from within it. When she got closer and opened it up, she was shocked to discover the nine puppies inside.

"We don't know how long they had been there but they were very hungry and thirsty. We gave them all a good check-up and they seem to be in good health."

Laura added that the puppies were named after Downton Abbey characters due to the shows popularity.

"The team decided to name them after some characters in the hope that they would be just as popular with potential new families when they go up for rehoming."

So here are Cora, Daisy, Edith, Martha, Carson, Earl, Tom, Jimmy and Alfred!
