A man has been left with a fractured skull and bleed on his brain after an assault in the High Street at Ventnor at the weekend. It’s believed the 27-year-old was punched once to the face and then fell to the ground. He is currently being treated for his injuries at St Mary’s Hospital.

Detective Constable Gillian Harvey said: “We’re looking for anyone who may have seen this incident or the people involved just prior or after it. Assaults like this luckily remain rare on the Island and we are keen to speak with anyone who had been out for the evening in Ventnor and saw what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Harvey at Newport CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the offence but has been bailed until Friday, December 19.
