50mph speed limit introduced on Sheppey Crossing

A 50mph speed limit has been introduced on the A249 Sheppey Crossing in Kent. It follows a serious crash last July in which a mother and her eight year-old son were killed.

Will a new speed limit save lives on the Sheppey Crossing?

It's been the scene of one of the worst pile-ups ever seen. And last summer, a mother and her young son were killed in a car crash on the Sheppey Crossing. Since then there has been a long campaign to lower speed limits on the bridge and today that finally happened. But people who live on the Isle of Sheppey say it's still not enough.
