'I wonder why I do it sometimes' - Sailor Alex Thomson crosses date line

Thomson has been keeping a video diary

Hampshire sailor Alex Thomson is 'enjoying' a second Sunday, after crossing the international date line in his quest to become the first British winner of the Vendee Globe.

He's currently in second place behind Armel Le Cleach'h, as they head toward Cape Horn.

The 42 year old from Titchfield has been filming regular video diaries, and today has been speaking about how the mind starts to play tricks when you're in appalling conditions, entirely on your own in the South Pacific:

The skipper reported to his team today that he is in fair shape, physically and mentally, but was very much looking forward to quieter weather.

“Alex is still crawling around the boat. It is impossible to move around at all. He is pretty tired as you would expect. But he seems to be OK.
