Firms halt nuclear plant plans

RWE npower and E.ON have announced they will not proceed with their "Horizon" project, which looked to develop new nuclear plants at Wylfa in North Wales and Oldbury-on-Severn in Gloucestershire.

UK nuclear power plans dropped

RWE Npower and E.On say they will not develop new nuclear power plants in Britain. The German-based utility companies were planning to invest up to 6,000 megawatts of new plants in Britain by 2025.

But the plans were dropped because of growing concern over the global financial crisis and financial problems at other projects in Europe.
