Police are questioning a man over the shooting of an unarmed officer during a neighbourhood call. The 33-year-old officer is believed to have been blasted with a shotgun as she and a colleague called at a house in Leeds shortly after 4am yesterday.

Police are hunting for James Leslie over the shooting.

West Yorkshire police have warned the public not to approach a suspected gunman wanted in connection with the shooting of a female police officer, but to call if they have any information regarding his whereabouts.

James Leslie, 37, allegedly opened fire on two police officers when they were called to an address in Leeds following reports of a disturbance.

Assistant Chief Constable Geoff Dodd said:

West Yorkshire Police are appealing to Mr Leslie to hand himself in as soon as possible.

The Police are actively seeking Mr Leslie and the public should be reassured that every effort is being made to safely locate him.

Additional patrols will be seen in the area.

The public should not approach Mr Leslie but ring 999, if they see him or know where he may be.

Police have named the man they want in connection with the shooting of a female police officer in Leeds early this morning.

West Yorkshire police have launched a manhunt for James Leslie, 37, of Cardigan Road in the Hyde Park suburb of the city.

They want to trace him after he allegedly opened fire on two police officers when they called to an address on Cardigan Road after reports of a disturbance.

The female officer received serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital. A male officer was uninjured.

West Yorkshire police said two uniformed officers attended a "routine call" to a disturbance and were confronted by a man at the address who fired at them.

The female officer suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.

A male officer was unharmed.
