Mikaeel Kular's mother charged with his murder

The mother of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular, whose disappearance led to a community-wide search, has been charged with his murder attempting to defeat the ends of justice. The charges were revealed after Rosdeep Adekoya appeared in an Edinburgh court.

Mikaeel's mother departs Edinburgh court in prison van

The mother of Mikaeel Kular departed Edinburgh Sheriff Court in a prison van this evening after being charged with the murder of the three-year-old.

Rosdeep Adekoya was charged with murder and an attempt to defeat the ends of justice.

The 33-year-old made no plea or declaration during the brief private hearing and is next expected in court on January 28.



Aunt 'devastated' over Mikaeel's death

Mikaeel Kular's aunt, Pandeep Kular, has spoken of her "devastation" over the death of her three-year-old nephew.

The 37-year-old sobbed as she told the Sunday People: "We're devastated. I'm with the kids."

She added: "I'm just with my family in the house. That's all I can say. We've just lost him."

Dr Bangarpet Krishnaswamy, who is married to Mikaeel's grandmother, gave an emotional tribute to those who helped search for the little boy, the Sunday Mirror said.

He said: "I would like to thank all the public and the police for the search, which sadly turned out to be a futile."

Rosdeep Kular expected in court over son's death

ITV News understands that the 33-year-old woman charged in connection with the disappearance of Mikaeel Kular is the three-year-old's mother, Rosdeep Kular.

She is expected to appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday following the formal identification of the boy's body.

Mikaeel's remains were found in Kircaldy, Fife, shortly before midnight on Friday.

More than 200 volunteers helped in Mikaeel search

More than 200 volunteers were involved in the search for three-year-old Mikaeel Kular, and 500 calls were made to police following the boy's disappearance on Wednesday, Assistant Chief Constable Malcolm Graham told a news conference.

He confirmed a 33-year-old woman has been charged in the case following the discovery of a body in Fife shortly before midnight on Friday.
