A mother committed a "cruel and inexcusable" act when she beat her three-year-old son Mikaeel Kular to death, a judge said.
Sentencing Rosdeep Adekoya to 11 years in prison, Lord Glennie said it was clear a "normal bond between mother and child simply failed to develop."
The judge also pointed to the large search for Mikaeel, involving emergency services and hundreds of residents after Adekoya reported her son missing.
A three-year-old boy who was killed by his mother had more than 40 separate injuries to his body at the time of his death.
Mikaeel Kular was beaten repeatedly by Rosdeep Adekoya after he was sick three times following a family trip to a restaurant.
His condition deteriorated over the next few days, and his mother kept him off school and refused to take him to the doctors in the fear of his bruises being discovered.
He died two days later and his body was discovered by Adekoya.
The final cause of Mikaeel's death was found to be ''blunt force abdominal trauma".
A mother who admitted killed her three-year-old child searched the internet for reasons she found it hard to love her son.
Rosdeep Adekoya's internet history showed searches including "I find it hard to love my son", "Why am I so aggressive with my son" and "Get rid of bruises".
Rosdeep Adekoya repeatedly beat her three-year-old son after "losing her temper" when he was sick following a family day-out.
Adekoya, who has been jailed for 11 years for Mikaeel Kular's death, struck him with a clenched fist after he became ill following a trip to a Nando's restaurant in Edinburgh.
After discovering his lifeless body on the floor of their Edinburgh home, Adekoya wrapped it in a duvet cover before putting it in a suitcase and driving to hide it in woodland.
She reported Mikaeel missing, prompting a high-profile search operation spanning two days involving hundreds of local residents.
Rosdeep Adekoya who last month admitted killing her three-year-old son Mikaeel Kular, has been jailed for 11 years at the High Court in Edinburgh.
The 34-year-old was initially charged with murder but last month pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of culpable homicide.
She also admitted a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by claiming to police her son had gone missing.
