13-year-old Amber Peat died as a result of hanging

Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed a body found in Mansfield is that of missing Amber Peat.

Post mortem tests showed the 13-year-old, who had not been seen since Saturday, died as a result of hanging.

Amber's mother Kelly and stepfather Danny paid tribute to their daughter saying: 'We will always remember Amber for her love of singing and dancing.'

Missing Amber Peat, 13, died from hanging

A 13-year-old girl who went missing from her home died as a result of hanging, Nottinghamshire Police have said.

The force said the teenager was found by two police officers searching an area off Westfield Lane, Mansfield.

Her body was out of sight and would not have been apparent to anyone in the area nearby, Superintendent Matthew McFarlane said.

Amber had not been seen since she left her home in Mansfield on Saturday evening after a row with her family.

Nottinghamshire Police have thanked the local community for their help in searching for 13-year-old Amber Peat.

A body believed to be Amber's was discovered less than a mile from her Mansfield home yesterday.

Formal identification and a post-mortem will take place later today.

Superintendent Matt McFarlane said: "On behalf of Nottinghamshire Police I would like to thank the local community and those further afield for their help in our search to find Amber Peat.

“From the moment Amber was reported missing our teams worked tirelessly alongside the community to try and find her.

“Over 400 officers and staff were looking for her. Sadly this was not the outcome that any of us were hoping for.

“Our thoughts are with Amber’s family, and we do ask that you please respect their privacy and that of her wider family."

Amber had not been seen since around 5.30pm on Saturday, when she walked out of her home in Mansfield after a row over chores.

Her father described her disappearance as "out of character".

Officers were tonight at the scene in Mansfield where the body was discovered.

Missing teenager walked out after row over chores

Missing teenager Amber Peat has not been seen since she walked out after an argument over chores with her parents, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Superintendent Matt McFarlane told reporters officers are carrying out searches in Mansfield and had spoken to family and friends.

He appealed for Amber, who has two younger sisters, to come home and for anyone with information on the missing teenager to contact them.

"We are looking for vulnerable, missing young girl here. The aim is to find her and get her home safe".

The parents of missing 13-year-old Amber Peat have made an emotional appear for anyone with information on the whereabouts of their daughter to contact them.

At a press conference held by Nottinghamshire Police, Kelly and Amber's stepfather Danny Peat described their daughter as a "homebird" and said her disappearance was "out of character".

They said the family had just returned from a holiday in Cornwall.
