Second arrest in soldier murder investigation

A second man has been arrested in connection with the death of a soldier in Brecon town centre.

The soldier was found unconscious in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A second arrest has been made over the death of a soldier in Brecon.

Dyfed-Powys Police says a 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 23-year-old man arrested yesterday remains in custody.

Officers received a report of an unconscious and injured man in Lion Street in the early hours of Sunday morning. He died later in hospital. The MOD has since confirmed he was a member of Royal Gibraltar Regiment.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Lion Street, Bethel Square, Tredegar Street and High Street between 12:30am and 1:30am on Sunday to contact 101 quoting reference number DP-20160508-024.

Man arrested over soldier's death in Brecon

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a soldier in Brecon town centre.

The serviceman was found injured and unconscious on Lion Street in Brecon at about 1am on Sunday.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said:

Today in Brecon, a 23-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the death of a man who was a serving member of the armed forces.

He is being held in custody on suspicion of murder and the investigation is ongoing.

No suggestion soldier's death in Brecon linked to terrorism

A soldier who has died in Brecon after being found injured and unconscious on Sunday morning was not wearing his army uniform, it is understood.

There is also nothing to indicate his death was linked to extremism, reports suggest.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the man was taken to hospital by ambulance after he was found but later died. His death is being treated as unexplained.

Officers received a report of an unconscious and injured male discovered on Lion Street at around 1am on Sunday May 8.

He was conveyed to hospital by ambulance. He has sadly since passed away. The death is being treated as unexplained at this time.

A police investigation is ongoing. The scene has been preserved as part of the investigation.
