Southampton's attempts to sign Quincy Promes are being met by resistance from Spartak Moscow.

With the coffers swelled by the recent record-breaking £75million sale of Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool, struggling Saints are attempting to strengthen their squad before Wednesday's transfer deadline.

Monaco striker Guido Carrillo has already arrived this month for a club-record fee and Mauricio Pellegrino would like to bolster his struggling side's attack further with Promes.

The Holland international is understood to be interested in a move to St Mary's, but negotiations are proving tough due to Spartak's understandable reluctance to sell their star turn.

Promes is currently in Marbella with the Russian team at a training camp, with a friendly scheduled against Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia on Wednesday.

Time is running out for Saints to sign the attacker as Pellegrino looks to improve his side.

Asked about the possibility of movement before the window shuts, the Southampton boss said: "It's possible. It's probable.

"We want to bring a player but it is difficult for us."

Musa rejoins former club CSKA on loan from Leicester

Leicester forward Ahmed Musa has returned to former club CSKA Moscow on loan until the end of the season.

The Nigeria international joined the Foxes in a then club-record £16million deal in August 2016, and has since notched five goals in 33 appearances for the East Midlands outfit.

Musa has only mustered one Leicester appearance this term, however, when he found the net in a Carabao Cup clash at Sheffield United.

And now the 25-year-old has been farmed out to the club where he spent five seasons, racking up more than 50 goals at the Russian Premier League side.

"A deal has been agreed for Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa to rejoin former club CSKA Moscow on loan until the end of the 2017/18 campaign," Leicester confirmed on their official website.

"The 25-year-old Nigeria international joined Leicester City in the summer of 2016 after spending over four years with the Russian club - during which time he scored more than 50 goals in all competitions.

"CSKA currently sit fifth in the Russian Premier League, with the division currently on a winter break which runs until March.

"He will be eligible to feature in next month's Europa League round of 32 clash away to Red Star Belgrade in Serbia."
