Despite the recent rain, land remains dry and firefighters are reminding people not use disposable BBQs in open green spaces.

The Chief Executive said the decision to remove the BBQs is to help protect the South amid 'extraordinarily dry conditions'.

Barbecues could be off the menu this summer as Southend Council looks to outlaw cooking on all local beaches, even the ones designated for cooking.
