John McAfee will return to America this evening, according to Reuters, after Guatemala said it would deport the millionaire software pioneer.

McAfee's lawyers managed to block an attempt to deport him back to Belize, where he is wanted by police as a "person of interest" in the killing of his neighbour, Gregory Faull.

Guatemala has been holding 67-year-old McAfee since he was arrested last Wednesday for illegally entering the country with his 20-year-old Belizean girlfriend.

Speaking to reporters from Reuters on telephone before leaving for the airport he said:

"I'll be leaving at 3:30pm to Miami. That was the only option I had.

"I can't take a flight that stops in any other country and there are only two flights going to America today."

McAfee 'happy' to return to America

John McAfee said he was "happy" to return to America. Mr McAfee told reporters earlier today:

Was I disappointed in the Guatemalan response to my request for asylum? I anticipated it.

What we are doing is filing a series of papers, a series of filings with the court to attempt to keep me here long enough for the world to see the injustice of sending me back to Belize.

I have dual citizenship. I would be happy to go to England. I would be very happy to go to America.

America is my home, where I was raised and that's exactly what I want.

John McAfee says return to US is his 'only hope'

John McAfee hosted a live video broadcast on his blog from his Guatemalan detention centre, asking to return to the US to lead a "normal life".

In a lengthy video statement, the 67-year-old anti-virus software expert said returning to the US was his "only hope".

The former fugitive said that he had no long-term plans during hiding and "simply would like to live comfortably day by day, fish, swim, enjoy my declining years."

He denied murdering his neighbour Gregory Faull in Belize and said there was no hope for his life if ever returned to the country, claiming it is corrupt.

Report: John McAfee denied asylum by Guatemala

The software pioneer John McAfee has been denied asylum by Guatemala, according to Reuters. The 67-year-old fled from Belize where police want to question him in connection with the death of another American Gregory Faull.

Mr McAfee claims that the authorities in Belize will kill him if he returns to the country. When told about the claims, the country's Prime Minister said that McAfee was "paranoid and bonkers".
