Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is carrying out urgent tests on the River Irfon near Builth Wells after they received reports of dead crayfish.
Tests confirmed the existence of Crayfish plague which is believed to be "harmless to people, pets, livestock and all other freshwater organisms".
