Forbes apologises for calling Irish President 'gay'

Renowned financial magazine Forbes has apologised to Ireland's President for publishing an article on its website which described him as an "acknowledged homosexual".

The New York-based business bible said both it and the article's author, David Monagan, "sincerely regret the error" made about President Michael D Higgins.

President Higgins has four children and is married to his actress wife Sabina.

"Forbes is issuing an apology to President Higgins in a separate correspondence," the magazine said.

A spokesman for the President has declined to comment about the piece, which was online for several hours yesterday.
