Jersey's government has unveiled plans to renovate the island's Grade 2 listed Opera House.

The project team reviewed the restoration and found due to the complexity for the work more time would be needed to do the refurbishment.

The Jersey Opera House is unlikely to reopen before September 2022, after the government delays £2.2 million refurbishment project.

Performing arts groups are warning of profound consequences should the reopening date not be brought forward.

Like many other businesses, both Jersey and Guernsey's creative sectors have faced severe hardship as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. 

The 10,200 piece chandelier in Jersey Opera House is cleaned once every two years.
