Jonathan Ross is to return to Radio 2, six years after the Sachsgate scandal which led to him being suspended from air and eventually leaving the BBC.
The presenter, who has since hosted The Jonathan Ross Show on ITV, left the station when he appeared on Russell Brand's show in 1998 and the pair were heard to leave lewd messages on actor Andrew Sachs' answerphone.
Ross will be back on air at the end of this month for a "one-off stint" of holiday cover for Steve Wright.
"There are no plans to bring him back permanently," a station spokesman said.
"Jonathan is an experienced and talented broadcaster who presented on Radio 2 for 10 years and was very popular with our audience," the BBC spokesman added.

Some of Britain's most famous comedians have paid tribute to comedy agent and producer Addison Cresswell, who has died at the age of 53.
Mr Cresswell guided the careers of stars such as Jonathan Ross and Jack Dee and was regarded as one of the most influential figures in British comedy.

Deeply saddened and shocked by the loss of Addison Creswell. A good friend and a tremendous character; he will leave an un-fillable void.
His production company Open Mike has been responsible for a number of popular TV shows such as Channel 4's Comedy Gala, Live At The Apollo and Stand up For The Week.
A spokesman said: "He leaves behind a proud legacy in his tireless charity work, initiating and organising the annual Channel 4 Comedy Gala in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital."
Jack Whitehall, who was crowned king of British comedy earlier this month for his role in Channel 4's Fresh Meat, tweeted:
