It was announced on Thursday 30 November that the restaurant had ceased trading, and staff were informed of the closure yesterday evening (29 November)

The Jewel Balti restaurant was described as an "enormous risk to public health" after cockroach and rat infestations as well as decomposing maggots were found.

Mike Bartley hopes to open his new restaurant "Jörd" on Newgate Street next year.
