States Members in Guernsey have voted against a raft of alternative measures that would have replaced plans for a Good and Services Tax.

Around 16% suggested it should change the size of the civil service, and reassess its use of consultants and external experts.

506 suggestions were submitted in total, with each islander able to send up to three ideas. 

Current forecasts estimate the island will run a £100 million a year deficit by 2040. 

After months of protests and debates, all five options on tax reform in the island have been thrown out in the States this evening.

Option E has been proposed by Deputy Peter Roffey and is seen as a fallback to be considered if the States cannot agree on any of the other options.
