World's oldest clipper ship to depart for Australia

The Duke of Edinburgh officially re-named the world's oldest clipper ship in London today before the vessel is taken to Australia to become a tourist attraction.

The City of Adelaide, also known as The Carrick, was built in Sunderland in 1864 and in its heyday carried hundreds of people Down Under.

Campaigners from Sunderland insist the vessel should return to the River Wear, however the grade A-listed ship was purchased by a Adelaide-based consortium three years ago.
