The Queen has sent greetings to the people of Jersey 70 years after their liberation from German occupation.
The monarch said she remembered the pleasure of her parents when they were able to visit Jersey on 7th June 1945, one month after liberation, and the pleasure she had in attending with the Duke of Edinburgh the 60th anniversary in 2005.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary we remember the many who suffered during the occupation of the Channel Islands, with all the hardships that went with that, including food shortages, deprivations of liberty and restrictions on ordinary everyday life.
Communities and families up and down the country are throwing street parties today, to mark the seventieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Britain.

Church bells have been ringing out around the UK today as events to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day continue.
