Work's to begin on the second phase of a multi-million pound coastal defence project to protect 400 seaside homes.

Hartlepool Council's secured another £3.5 million for Seaton Carew seafront, to protect another 700 metres of coastline. It follows a previous £1.5 million investment.

The project, which will start in late summer, will involve removing the existing deteriorating sea wall down to the promenade level and replacing it with a stronger new seawall.

“The threat of rising sea levels and coastal erosion along Britain’s coastline is a serious one, and Hartlepool is no exception.

“I am therefore delighted that we will soon be able to start the next part of our coastal defence upgrade, which is a vital part of the wider regeneration of Seaton Carew."
