Kat Copeland has spent many hours at the Tees Rowing Club in Stockton, where she trained to earn her place on Team GB and ultimately her Olympic gold medal. On her first visit since that success, she arrived in a gold-plated Bentley, and crowds of supporters were there to welcome her.

Kat and her partner Sophie Hosking won the lightweight double sculls at London 2012, and in the ten days since then have appeared on a postage stamp and on televisions all over the country.

Tonight she was honoured with a special homecoming, and told us she is overwhelmed by all the support.

On the balcony overlooking the banks of the Tees, she was able to thank all those who turned out in the rain to see her, and her proud parents and friends told us they are delighted too.
