Hundreds of screaming fans welcomed 5 Seconds of Summer to Newcastle as they made a stop on their UK Radio tour. The Australian group have just finished a world tour with One Direction and are about to release their debut UK single 'She Looks So Perfect'. Fans stood outside of Metro Radio for hours in hope of seeing the four-piece band. They told ITV News Tyne Tees that 5SOS were 'great because they make an effort on social media'. The band spoke to Rachel Sweeney about how important it is to connect with fans, their friendship with One Direction and how they are coping with fame.

5 Seconds of Summer began in December 2011. Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford and Calum Hood met at school. They started posting videos of their performances to YouTube and received hundreds of thousands of hits. Ashton Irwin later joined the band as the drummer and their online hits shot up to millions. The boys signed a deal with Sony ATV Music Publishing and only promoted themselves online, they are currently with Capitol Records. The band say that social media is the best way to get noticed.

It was when Niall and Louis of One Direction posted a link to their music that the roller-coaster started and it was announced that they would join One Direction on a world tour.

"They're going to be absolutely massive! Even the band's own people weren't expecting crowds like this. After touring with One Direction they obviously picked up a lot of fans and why wouldn't they? They're great guys!"
