A new exhibition that celebrates the history and heritage of the North East opens in Newcastle on August 10th.

Entitled "I Love This Place", the show has been put on by Historic England and will be exhibited in one of their historic buildings: Bessie Surtees House in the centre of Newcastle.

In the exhibition well-loved places across the North East are explored and rediscovered through photography. Historic England has searched through its archive for images that tell stories about the history of the North East.

A Historic England photographer then set out on a journey around the region to try and capture those same views. The result is a series of photographs that highlight what has changed and what has stayed the same over hundreds of years.
