Durham Police defends diversity record

Durham Constabulary PCC Ron Hogg has responded to comments made by Home Secretary Theresa May, who claimed the force employs no black officers.

"It is factually incorrect to say we have no black officers, as has been reported today.

Meanwhile, the Chair of Durham Black and Asian Police Association, DC Waheed Mughai, echoed PCC Ron Hogg's statement. He said, the force employs "at least 19 other Black and Ethnic Minority officers" as well as the officer mentioned by the PCC.

"Both the Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner are fully supportive of the BAPA and are fully supportive of the Black and Asian Police Association and are always receptive to ideas from members about how diversity in the workplace can be promoted and what can be done further to ensure that the force is representative of their communities.
