Officers from Northumbria Police have taken part in a charity abseil at Hexham Abbey.

Neighbourhood officers from West Tynedale took up the challenge to raise cash in aid of the Northumberland Domestic Abuse Service (NDAS) and the Abbey itself.

Inspector Kevin Oates, together with PCs Zoe Dixon and Yvonne Clement took the plunge on June 18 along with scores of other fund-raising volunteers.

Neighbourhood Inspector Kevin Oates, said:

This was a great day and a really fun event which brought together many members of the community in support of two good causes. We are pleased to support NDAS, which I know does important work giving vital support to vulnerable people who are victims of domestic abuse in the county, and raising funds for the Hexham Abbey roof appeal which is also a pillar of our community.

I'm please to say we all rose to the challenge before gently abseiling down the roof which was a fun experience. Between the three of us we're proud to say we raised around £300.

The Abbey is also raising funds to replace much of the roof of Hexham Abbey, and aims to raise £1m, following an inspection last winter.
