EU Referendum: Farage 'happy' with North East results so far

UKIP leader and Leave campaigner Nigel Farage said he was pleased with the way the North East has voted so far in the EU Referendum.

At the time he tweeted, seven of the 12 authorities in the region had declared - with Newcastle the only one to remain and even then by a slight majority.

After the Sunderland declaration, Farage said he thought Remain might "nick" the result but said Leave would still "win overall."

If I was a betting man, I would say that probably Remain might nick it by a fraction, but who's to say? But you know, win or lose this battle tonight, we're going to win this overall. The European Union's bad for Britain and very bad for the Labour Party, because that's what Sunderland has shown us tonight, this disconnect now that exists in British politics between what happens here in SW1 and rest of the country is massive."
