A 13-year-old boy is in a coma after falling 20 feet from a cliff on Tyneside. The teenager suffered serious head and leg injuries at Cullercoats. The incident happened at 5.30pm this afternoon.

The boy was put into an induced coma by the air ambulance’s doctor and was given a blood transfusion at the scene. He was then taken to the RVI by air ambulance and remains in a critical condition.

In a separate incident nearby at 5.50pm, the Coastguard rescued a man from the sea at Cullercoats Bay who had suffered serious injuries.
